A Case Study
August Gospel Fest Brings Joy to Roseland Neighborhood
The Challenge:
Within a short six-week time frame and with a small budget, boost attendance at the Universal Community M.B. Church's third annual outdoor gospel festival, held Aug. 14, 2010, the same day as the Bud Billiken Parade, an annual event that's popular among African-American youth in Chicago.
The Strategy:
-
Blanketed the church’s neighborhood
with flyers and posters, and pitched
electronic media and daily, neighborhood and African-American newspapers.
-
Positioned the event and church as bringing joy to a community that has suffered devastation from violent crimes.
The Results:
-
More than 200 people in attendance (attendance doubled from the previous year).
-
Announcements in N’DIGO and the Chicago Tribune.
-
Articles and photos in the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Crusader.
