A Case Study

University of Chicago Promotes Community Service and Literacy

The Challenge:

The University of Chicago’s Office of Civic Engagement desired to raise awareness of its civic initiatives through earned media. One initiative was its MLK Day of Service. The other initiative was its annual My Very Own Library literacy program for Chicago Public Schools students. The university engaged Yolanda Y. Harris, as a Rudd Resources consultant, to create and implement media relations strategies for both events

The Results:

The University of Chicago’s civic initiatives received coverage on local TV news stations and in community newspapers. View media placements here:

The Strategy:

With less than a week to prepare and implement a strategy for both events, Yolanda Y. Harris prepared and distributed to targeted media press materials, including a menu of opportunities for media coverage, and followed up her outreach with distributions of photo summaries.
